Instructions
- Boil the macaroni in lightly salted water until al dente. Drain.
- Melt the butter in a saucepan and add the flour. Stir the flour mixture until it dries, stirring constantly, until it smells like biscuits. Gradually add the milk and cream, stirring gently until the sauce thickens. Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in half the cheese. Meanwhile, cut the cooked ham into 1-centimeter squares and add them to the sauce. Mix the pasta into the sauce as well.
- Pour the mixture into a large baking dish or several small dishes and top with the remaining cheese. Place the macaroni in the oven under the broiler until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
