Yellow Light

Like sight at the very end
the sky has gone purple grey
beckoning ghosts to a false way
spruce are contrast-less shadow

The wind stings
howling cold
the dogs sing
pushing on
a panting chant
of perseverance

Faith and trust are nearly gone
a view of a future is all but lost
in this cloud silver black
and ice diamonds glittering

The runners slide
on a blue frozen river
miss the overflow
maybe one more bend or turn
God let me see!
let me see one more time
I plead
the yellow light
of home
